On last night’s episode of The Talking Dead, Walking Dead comic creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that Daryl Dixon is into the ladies.

The comments were made after Kirkman himself wouldn’t answer earlier this year whether or not Daryl, played by Norman Reedus, is gay.

On last night’s post-episode talkshow, Kirkman clarified his comments and set the record… straight. “In the letter column of the comic book that I do, I mentioned that there was a possibility early on about making Daryl Dixon’s character gay,” he said. “I just wanted to clarify that the possibility is there and that I would have been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it — but we ultimately didn’t do that. I can make it official: Daryl Dixon is straight.”

In addition to these comments which are sure to excite female Walking Dead fans, Kirkman revealed that a gay character seen in the comic series will be appearing sometime during the second half of The Walking Dead season 5 which premieres on February 8.

While it’s too early to know who this new gay character is on The Walking Dead, fans are already speculating that it could be either Jesus or the couple Aaron and Eric. All three characters are associated with the Alexandria Safe Zone – a place in the comics that Rick and company may eventually reach on the television show.

Last night’s episode of The Walking Dead season 5 found Beth dying at the hand of Officer Dawn. We watched as Maggie tragically discovered her sister was killed as Daryl carried her out of the hospital in his arms. Read more about what happened in our mid-season finale recap.
