Taika Waititi is teaming with Sterlin Harjo on a brand new FX comedy series centered around a group of Native American teenagers called Reservation Dogs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX has ordered a brand new comedy series called Reservation Dogs from Academy Award winner Taika Waititi and filmmaker Sterlin Harjo.

Set in rural Oklahoma, the forthcoming comedy series is set to focus on a group of four Native American teen who spend their days committing crime, and also fighting crime.

Both Waititi and Harjo teamed up to write the script for the pilot, with Harjo also serving as director on the series’ first episode. In addition, the filmmakers have assembled a writers room assembled entirely of indigenous writers.

In a statement announcing the series, Harjo spoke of how he’s looking forward to working with Waititi on a series centered on telling indigenous stories.

“As longtime friends, it was only natural that Taika and I found a project together, and what better than a show that celebrates the complementary storytelling styles of our indigenous communities — mine in Oklahoma and Taika’s in Aotearoa,” said Harjo. “We’re thrilled by the opportunity to tell the Reservation Dogs’ story with our amazing cast and crew, Garrett Basch, and the whole team at FX.”

Leading the cast of Reservation Dogs will be actors D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Murdoch Mysteries), Devery Jacobs (American Gods), Paulina Alexis (Beans), as well as newcomer Lane Factor.

Others set to appear in guest starring roles for the series’ first episode include Tamara Podemski, Zahn McClarnon, Macon Blair, Kirk Fox, Matty Cardarople, Dallas Goldtooth, Lil Mike and Funny Bone.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see Taika Waititi and Sterlin Harjo’s Reservation Dogs debut via FX.
