If, like us, you’ve fallen hard for Voltron: Legendary Defender and are impatiently waiting for its second season to premiere, we’ve got you covered with all the latest news from its NYCC panel.

As previously announced at San Diego Comic-Con this year, we knew that Voltron‘s sophomore season was on the horizon — but further details weren’t forthcoming at that time. With the teaser trailer landing online just before the convention kicked off, Voltron fans’ anticipation was already in high gear.

We’re guilty of having had the teaser trailer on repeat leading up to the panel, trying to glean every last piece of information from it. If you haven’t already checked out the trailer for yourself, you can watch it below.

(Let us know when you’ve finished screaming.)

Executive producers Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery, story editor Tim Hendrick, and voice actors Jeremy Shada (Lance) and Bex Taylor-Klaus (Pidge) took to the stage at New York Comic Con to provide fans with a little more insight on what to expect when the second season arrives on Netflix.

  1. The season 2 premiere date was announced. Voltron will return to Netflix on January 20, 2017.
  2. Voltron season 2, episode 2 is called “The Depths.” The focus is on Lance, Hunk and the planet they crash landed on following the events of the season 1 finale.
  3. Lauren Montgomery admitted to having an intense fondness for mermaids, which is particularly relevant to episode 2.
  4. Weird Al Jankovic provided the voice for one of the characters in “The Depths.”
  5. There will be more guest stars featured in the second season — though both Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos remained tight-lipped on who would appear and when.
  6. We can expect the scope of Voltron season 2 to continue to get bigger. We’ll be introduced to new planets, and species.
  7. Shiro and Keith’s whereabouts were not divulged during the panel, nor did they feature in any of the clips we saw. According to the creators, they’re in “trouble.”
  8. The core cast all have a journey to go on over the course of Voltron’s sophomore season, though Shiro and Keith were singled out.
  9. Pidge’s mission to find her father and brother hasn’t gone away. It was strongly hinted that that mission will come to the forefront.

  10. Pidge crash landed alone on a trash nebula. Pidge doesn’t deal well with the isolation, and has a creative solution involving impressions.
  11. Hunk is a great cook, and his culinary skills will be utilized at some point during the season.
  12. Lance’s heritage was confirmed as Cuban, and will be mentioned and explored in Voltron season 2.
  13. Lance has the opportunity to exhibit more leadership skills in the second season. We saw some of those skills in action during the second episode, which was screened during the panel.
  14. Though the creators, obviously, wouldn’t confirm whether we’d see any character deaths in the forthcoming season, they did say that the stakes will be high.
  15. Despite those higher stakes, there will still be some happier moments.
  16. When questioned about which of the Paladins could pilot the Black Lion, the creators danced around the issue. Keith was a favorite, but a strong argument was also made for Lance.
  17. Keith’s past is something that will come up during the second season. Answers to some questions that we have about Keith will be provided. “Everyone tune in to see what’s up with Keith,” Montgomery said.
  18. Joaquim Dos Santos said that we will discover what drives Zarkon in season 2.
