Vixen, the animated series set in the Arrow-verse, has been renewed for a second season.

Vixen, which aired its first season in late summer 2015, will get a second season on The CW’s digital streaming platform, CW Seed. Vixen told the origin story of Mari McCabe (Megalyn Echikunwoke), whose family’s totem granted her the ability to channel the abilities of animals.

The series also featured the voices of Stephen Amell as The Arrow, Grant Gustin as The Flash, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon and Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak.

Vixen featured six episodes of about four to six minutes of length each. You can read our review of the first season here.

According to The CW president Mark Pedowitz, fans can expect another batch of six to seven mini episodes, which will, as with season 1, total about half an hour of content.

Pedowitz added that he would have liked to have seen all six episodes of season 1 edited together into a half-hour special to air on television. The intention is to do so with season 2.

Further cementing the connection between Vixen and the Arrow-verse, Echikunwoke is set to appear in an upcoming episode of Arrow, reprising her role as Mari as well.

“We’re not only thrilled to be further expanding our DC television universe by bringing in the live-action incarnation of the CW Seed hit Vixen, we’re immensely excited that Megalyn will be revisiting her role as Mari McCabe,” said executive producer Marc Guggenheim.

Pedowitz has high hopes for Vixen beyond her animated series and an appearance on Arrow. Mari “is a superhero of diversity and color. Hopefully that character can spin itself out — if not, join the Legends [of Tomorrow],” he says.
