DC has finally released our first look at the Aquaman standalone film, not only giving us a closer look at Arthur, but also Mera, Atlanna, and more.

With Aquaman hitting theaters this December, fans were starting to wonder why there hadn’t been a big teaser release or even the release of a few images. Thankfully, we have to wonder no more, as DC recently chose to team up with Entertainment Weekly to give us our first, watery look into the movie.

The Aquaman issue of EW is on newsstands now, but if you can’t wait to run to the store to pick yourself up a copy, here is a sneak preview of a few of the awesome images they released to get us ready for the movie. There are a couple of rad cover options, one with just Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, and one featuring Momoa flanked by Amber Heard (Mera) and Nicole Kidman (Atlanna).

And while there are, obviously, several great pictures of our titular hero, the images give us an even better look at the other individuals in Arthur Curry’s life. One picture even showed us a peek at a baby Arthur Curry with his mother, Atlanna (Kidman).

We also see Arthur and Mera (Heard) hanging out on land, rocking some pretty great, casual beach chic outfits.

Of course, no superhero movie is complete without some bad guys and antagonists, and the EW preview definitely lets us get our first glimpses at those folks. First, we see Arthur’s brother and adversary, Ocean Master, played by Patrick Wilson.

And here is our first look at an infamous Aquaman villain, Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. We even see a quick look at his helmet, which definitely feels familiar to his classic, comic book style.

EW also released a behind-the-scenes photo of director James Wan at work.

And, just for good measure, here is a very good photo of Jason Momoa himself storming a submarine.

You can, of course, pick up this issue of Entertainment Weekly for yourself now to learn more about the movie. We can only hope this photo release means a teaser trailer is on its way soon! Until then, we’ll just enjoy these awesome pictures and prepare for Aquaman‘s December 21 theatrical release.
