We met Michonne during The Walking Dead season finale earlier this year, and in season 3, we’ll get to see much more of her. In a video from AMC, we go behind the scenes with Michonne to witness her katana skills.

A bigger role is coming for Danai Gurira’s Michonne in the upcoming season of The Walking Dead, and we’ll get to see a greater development of her character. We can only assume that she and Andrea will catch up to the rest of our main characters, and Michonne will be a welcome member and valuable asset.

Guruira says of her character, “Michonne is somewhat to some extent self-taught, but she’s figured out how to make it economical, effective, and efficient.”

And she seems to really enjoy getting into character: “I love learning new physical stuff. It’s such an amazing craft, the katana…watching films and working with my trainer has been really awesome.”

Property Master for the series John Sanders shows us how impressive this weapon is:

“Danai had a month of sword training…swinging a sword like this is very complicated. Makes you six feet wide, it’s a real blade, we have rubber, we have aluminums, we have digitized blades, but it takes a lot of effort to wield a sword all day long.”

It’s nice to see Gurira as such a fan of her own character:

“I think she’s an awesome character, so I am really thrilled to be stepping into her shoes. And you know, I hope I can do her justice. She’s phenomenal, and she’s rare…you don’t come across this very often.”

We agree. Are you looking forward to seeing more of Michonne this season?
