So there we have it. Team StarKid’s finally doing the ‘Threequel’A Very Potter Senior Year – next month at LeakyCon. Well, sort of. The group is unfortunately unable to commit this project to a full live production, but to celebrate the fandom and say goodbye to their Harry Potter work, Team Starkid are putting on a one-off staged reading of the finished script.

And to think: As an Australian, this writer was asleep for the announcement! Pesky time zones. However, we will be attending the actual event in question, and in the meantime here are my predictions for what AVPSY may contain!

1. The plot will draw from the canon of Chamber of Secrets

Not so much a prediction as an inevitability at this point, unless drastic changes have been made to the script. The group has had this project plotted out for two years, and the Lang brothers have stated in several interviews that, since Chamber was only the book they hadn’t used in A Very Potter Musical/Sequel, it was pretty obviously the focus of the third play. We also predict that the stand-out character will be Lockhart, and that he’ll be played by Brian Holden. Tyler Brunsman could also pull off this role fabulously, but if it follows the Chamber story, we hope Tyler will be reprising his unforgettable and perfect Lucius Malfoy.

2. Evanna Lynch will cameo as Dobby

This is something the fandom has been talking about for a while, since Evanna herself has said she wanted to do it. It probably wouldn’t have been possible for Evanna to participate in a full live run of a Harry Potter parody musical, but since this is happening as a one-off within a fan convention, we predict that she’ll be involved. This has potential for hilarity as Dobby was revealed to be Draco Malfoy’s true father in A Very Potter Sequel.

3. The Lang brothers will provide running commentary

Since the show will be a staged reading – which basically means no props, costumes, movements or visual gags – we predict that the writers Matt and Nick Lang, as well as perhaps other cast members, will provide a peanut gallery of humorous interjections and stage directions explaining what they were trying to create.

4. Meredith Stepien will play Hermione

Darren Criss is taking time out of his busy schedule to come and play Harry for us one last time. But AVPM‘s original Hermione, Bonnie Gruesen, has chosen to distance herself from the group since leaving college, and she is, according to StarKid’s agent, no longer considered to be part of Team StarKid.

Obviously, this leaves a major character open, and most of the StarKid women already have Potter roles that they’re sure to be playing once again. However, Meredith Stepien was not involved in the Potter shows but has since become a real Team StarKid leading lady and fan favorite, and even sung Hermoine’s spotlight song, “The Coolest Girl,” on 2011’s SPACE Tour. We predict she’ll take over the role of Hermione for the reading. We also predict that the script will include some kind of joke referencing Hermione having altered her appearance with magic.

5. There won’t be any songs

There’s been rumblings that Darren has the music finished – whenever StarKid have been asked about the third Potter show, they always said it was all ready to go – but the StarKid event slot at LeakyCon is only three hours and they’re apparently performing more than just the AVPSY reading during that time. Timewise, eliminating songs could bring the reading down to approximately 90 minutes, leaving another 90 minutes for a musical performance of their old material.

Plus, learning songs is harder to prepare in advance than reading the script, and they’ve chosen to stage a reading as they have no adequate way of preparing the show as a full production. However, we really, really hope we’re wrong and hope the presence of composer AJ Holmes and musical director Clark Baxtresser on the cast list means that we will get some new StarKid Potter songs.

And a few more quick ones:

– Joe Walker will play Voldemort again.
– Someone will mess up or make the other cast members laugh when they’re not supposed to.
– No mention will be made of RedVines, G.L.E.E., or other jokes from past shows. Fans may cling on to these, but the StarKid writers really don’t like repeating jokes over different productions.
– There will be a Colin Creevey character who lampshades Darren’s fame.
– The Dursleys, McGonagall or Hagrid will be introduced.
– At least one cast member will be wearing their costume. Probably Joe Moses/Snape.
– StarKid will have staged and choreographed one scene or song – probably the final scene – and will physically perform it.

What are your predictions? Devin Lytle, who plays Cho Chang, has confirmed the event will be recorded, so even if you’re not attending LeakyCon you should be able to experience the last Very Potter show.
