It’s time to return to Neptune, California, marshmallows. A Veronica Mars revival series is in the works.

Update 2 (November 2): Things are moving fast! Kristen Bell received the script — and possibly attended a table read — on Thursday. Check out her Instagram post, in which she said that “THINGS ARE HAPPENING TODAY! AND ITS ALL FOR YOU MY LOVELY MARSHMALLOWS!”

Update (September 20): It’s officially happening! Hulu has announced the new Veronica Mars series has an eight-episode order. The new episodes will premiere in 2019. Rob Thomas, Diane Ruggiero-Wright, Dan Etheridge are producing, with Bell set as an executive producer. Thomas will write the first episode.

A synopsis for the new episodes reads, “Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.”

In addition, the first three seasons and the movie will be coming to Hulu in summer 2019.

Original story (August 21): The revival has been in the works for months, has not yet been finalized. However, should the deal be closed, original star Kristen Bell will star and series creator Rob Thomas will pen the revival.

Bell, of course, currently stars in The Good Place on NBC. Variety reports the revival series would shoot around her schedule; this would likely lend itself to a limited series.

Further details, such as the storyline, other casting news, or an expected airdate, remain under wraps.

Neither Hulu nor Warner Bros. TV has commented.

The original Veronica Mars series followed teenage detective Veronica Mars (Bell), who worked alongside her private investigator father (Enrico Colantoni). The series also starred Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen, Teddy Dunn, Michael Muhney and Tina Majorino.

The series premiered in 2004 and ran three seasons before being canceled. A 2013 Kickstarter raised enough money to fund a Veronica Mars film, set years after the series, which came out in 2014.

There have been several other Veronica Mars projects since then, including two novels and a web series.
