Warner Bros. has released the first two minutes of the Veronica Mars movie!

The first two minutes of the highly-anticipated film adaptation of Veronica Mars offers a small recap of how the lead character became who she is today:

The recap serves as an introduction to Veronica Mars, so film-goers either unfamiliar with or long removed from the show won’t be lost when the film picks up nine years after the show ended. What do viewers need to know going into the Veronica Mars movie?

The recap opens with the tragedy that started it all: Veronica’s best friend, Lilly, was murdered when Veronica was 15. Veronica’s father, Keith, was the sheriff at the time and believed one of Neptune, California’s, most powerful men was behind the murder.

But going after him made both Keith and Veronica pariahs. So while Veronica lost her friends, Keith was ousted from his job and became a private investigator. Veronica assisted her father on cases and tried to solve her best friend’s murder, all while navigating the class war raging in Neptune.

But Veronica got out of Neptune at the age of 19, “leaving a trail of destruction in [her] wake,” following her freshman year at Hearst College — the setting of season 3.

“I’ve grown up, though,” she assures us. “That was the old me, angry me, vengeful me. New me? People say I’m a marshmallow,” the voiceover concludes in a nod to the very first episode of Veronica Mars, when Veronica’s newly minted best friend, Wallace, calls her on having a soft inside despite her tough exterior.

On the character front, the recap also reminds us of Logan Echolls. “Like me, Logan was fueled by rage and distrust and wanted to make someone pay” for Lilly’s death, Veronica says. And while it was those similarities that brought them together, they were eventually what tore them apart by the end of the third season as well. It seems clear their story is far from over, though.

The movie hits theaters March 14. Hypable will be hitting the red carpet of the film in the coming weeks – stay tuned!
