The Veronica Mars Movie announced the return of three series cast members to the Warner Bros. film with Chris Lowell, Christine Larkin, and Francis Capra joining the film.

Executive producer and creator Rob Thomas announced to Kickstarter backers earlier today that Capra would be joining the film. Thomas emphasized Capra’s integral part in the film and the show, stating, “Playing a wrong-side-of-the-tracks-kid in a town full of privileged peers, Francis found a terrific — and difficult — balance between tough and soulful. I couldn’t be happier that he’ll be back with us for the film.” His character, Weevil, was a regular in all three seasons of the UPN and CW show and was one of Veronica’s (Kristen Bell) fiercest protectors.

Lowell played Piz on the show whose return has made some fans ecstatic and others cautiously optimistic to see how he will play into the film. Thomas has hinted that the plot will revolve around Neptune High’s ten-year reunion, but Veronica and Wallace (Percy Daggs III) did not meet Piz until attending Hearst College.

Larkin’s character, Susan, was a minor character during the series whose storyline intersects with that of Mr. Rooks, played by Adam Scott. It is unclear if Adam Scott will reprise his role as well. At the Austin Television Festival, Thomas did mention that he was working on a “Party Down” script which Scott was involved in.

Thomas announced this weekend that Lowell would be reprising his role of Piz, right before the two were on a Veronica Mars panel at the Austin Television Festival. On the panel, Lowell jokingly promised partial nudity and appeared excited about the film and his upcoming television show Enlisted. Thomas announced this weekend that Daggs will reprise his role of Wallace and like Lowell and Capra, Daggs filmed a video sharing his excitement.

Fans are still waiting to see if the fan favorites Dick Casablancas (Ryan Hansen), Cindy “Mac” Mackenzie (Tina Majorino), and Duncan Kane (Teddy Dunn) will be returning for the film. Thomas will continue to announce cast members this week.

Are you excited to have Susan join Veronica and the crew? What do you think of Capra’s and Lowell’s videos? Who else do you want to see in The Veronica Mars Movie? Will you join the Neptune gang at Comic Con for their previously announced fan event?

The Veronica Mars Movie begins filming June 17 in Los Angeles.
