There’s been some talk recently about The Vampire Diaries ending and what that could mean for its characters. There are a few we wouldn’t mind seeing make the switch to The Originals.

When you’ve spent as long with characters as we have with Damon, Stefan, Caroline, and the rest of The Vampire Diaries family, it’s hard to say goodbye. We don’t yet know when that goodbye will come, as reports of the show ending after next season may have been a little premature, but it’s hard to stop thinking about what happens to these characters if (or when) the show ends.

Most shows would have nowhere for the characters to go once it’s met its end, but The Originals is waiting in the wings with open arms for some of our most beloved characters. If any of the actors find their character’s story not quite finished, maybe they’d be willing to tell a bit more of it while hanging out in the Quarter with some old frenemies.

If we had our pick of people to see make the switch to The Originals to hang out with the Mikaelsons, here are our top choices. Some are characters with a lot of story left to tell, while others are some we’re just not sure we’ll ever be ready to fully say goodbye to.

1. Caroline Forbes

Entanglements with certain members of the Mikaelson family outstanding, Caroline Forbes is one character that we will never get enough of. She’s a cool, calm head in the face of even the scariest circumstances, her overbearing need to organize and handle things is endearing at the very least, and we just love her. When you add in the complications her presence could cause for Klaus, and her history with Hayley, Caroline’s presence in the Quarter would definitely add a spark to The Originals.

2. Alaric Saltzman

There aren’t too many actual adults hanging around on either The Vampire Diaries or The Originals, so being our last man standing is a testament to how much we love Alaric Saltzman. He hasn’t had a whole lot to do since the birth of his twin babies on The Vampire Diaries, but now that Stefan and Damon have dragged him back into the world of the supernatural, maybe he’ll need a new safe place to protect his kids. Plus, Hope could use a friend or two. A trip to the Quarter may not be the craziest idea, even if Alaric hasn’t always been the Mikaelsons biggest fan.

3. Stefan Salvatore

Stefan has had a roller coaster of a life since Elena chose Damon over him. He fell for Caroline after trying his best to resist. He’s been struggling in his relationship with his brother, and has spent a lot of time with Val trying to let Caroline be happy somewhere else with someone else. Wouldn’t it be nice to see him in a totally new place starting fresh with a couple of friendly faces? When he showed up during the crossover episode, Stefan slipped into the Mikaelson fold pretty seamlessly. We could see him fitting in very well around the compound.

4. Enzo St. John

Enzo is such a mystery. So much of his history is unknown and he sort of stomped into the scene in season 5 and has been a force ever since. Who knows if he would get along with any of the Mikaelsons, but it would definitely be interesting to say the least. He could be the instigator of another problem, or maybe the solution to all their problems. You never know with Enzo.

5. Damon Salvatore

Last, but never least, is Damon Salvatore. Love him, hate him, or love to hate him, this character stands out as the one with the craziest and most intense arc of the series. Damon is one of those characters it will be hard to say goodbye to once The Vampire Diaries ends. We may not know how to fit him in with the Mikaelsons as he’s been responsible for trying to kill at least, well, all of them at one point or another. Maybe just a visit or two would be more in the cards for Damon, but even seeing him once or twice after The Vampire Diaries ends would be a gift.

Who would you like to see on ‘The Originals’ after ‘The Vampire Diaries’ ends?
