A companion book to the hit TV show Once Upon a Time comes out this Tuesday and it’s definitely something all OUAT fans should have on their shelves!

Once Upon a Time – Behind the Magic is a companion book filled with intriguing interviews, pictures of set and prop designs, and wonderful information about how Once Upon a Time was conceived and brought to life. Not only do you learn a lot, but it’s also really, really pretty to look at while you read!

One of our favorite things about this book is how sturdy it is. It was surprising to see that when you picked it up it wasn’t heavy but it was definitely durable. The pages are thick and glossed so if you happen to keep it on your coffee table (which is what we’re definitely doing with this beauty), you won’t have to worry if you spill water on it because the pages won’t immediately absorb the mess. But enough with how the book feels, how does it read?!

Behind the Magic shows readers almost everything they’d wanna know about how seasons 1 and 2 were written, produced, developed, and aired. We don’t want to divulge too much information about the interviews, but one of the most interesting ones in the very first pages of the book tells us how long it took producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsiss to form this idea, as well as exactly when it became an approved pitch to ABC. There are plenty more interviews throughout the book that educate and entertain, and they’re not just from the actors. With this companion novel you’ll also be able to read the thoughts of the set designers, the prop makers, the writers, and the producers.

This book also gives us a fantastic look at the costume and prop design, complete with sketches and images of the final product. As fans of television, we’ve always been intrigued by how much work goes into a prop or a costume and it comes as no surprise that some of these props, like the Genie’s lamp, are way more complicated than meets the eye. It was absolutely entertaining to read how that lamp operated and exactly how many of them they had to make.

And last but definitely not least, the eye candy. Just check out Hook’s high-res photo above!

Not only is this book a feast for your mind but also your eyes –- you get hundreds of high-quality images right there in your hands, which is undoubtedly better than looking at them through a computer or television screen. We’ve spent hours alone just looking at each image and taking in the details. …and we’re not specifically talking about that Colin O’Donoghue part, although we could spend hours on that as well.

So when Once Upon a Time – Behind the Magic comes out at your local bookstore, we definitely recommend going out and buying a copy because all Once Upon a Time fans are going to want to know what’s in those pages!
