The Steve Jobs biopic optioned by Sony was recently scrapped, but Universal has decided to pick up the project. Further, it looks like Michael Fassbender might star.

On November 19, Sony announced that it was dropping its biopic telling the story of Apple mogul Steve Jobs. The movie was based on the biography by Walter Isaacson, for which Sony bought the rights shortly after Jobs’ death in 2011.

But Universal, which Variety says was expected to take over the high-profile project, has stepped in, ensuring that production will commence on schedule.

Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) has penned the script, and following David Fincher turning down the directing gig, Danny Boyle has picked up the reins.

The role of Steve Jobs seems to have passed by many big-name actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale. Now, it seems like Michael Fassbender might pick up the mantle, with Seth Rogen playing Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Christian Colson, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady.

Of course there’s already been a Steve Jobs biopic; in 2013, Jobs saw Ashton Kutcher as a very convincing Steve Jobs, while Josh Gad played Wozniak.

Do you think the world is ready for another Steve Jobs movie? And is Michael Fassbender a good choice for the role?
