Scarlett Johansson stars in Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin, where she plays an alien looking to capture, destroy and presumably send human male samples to her home planet.

This obscure story is receiving great buzz and in the trailer we see one critic compare Glazer to Kubrick, while that’s possibly a stretch, it’s great to see a star such as Johansson taking on unique roles. Watch the official trailer below:

Scarlett Johansson will be playing an alien (Laura) who uses her sexuality to lure loners, but later begins to wonder if what she’s doing is right after she begins to have emotional attachments with some of the men she captures.

Under the Skin’s official synopsis: “In search of loners, Laura (Scarlett Johansson) drives around the exquisitely moody landscapes of the Scottish highlands. She’s an alien, sent from afar and equipped with enough human language and awesome seductive power to capture, destroy and presumably send home human males. And then, her curiosity about her human body and an accidental act of pity disrupt her mission.”

Scarlett Johansson can be seen next in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which hits theaters April 4, 2014.

Under the Skin will hit theaters first in the U.K. on March 14. The film will then open in L.A. and New York on April 4, with its limited release coming April 11.
