As the cast gathers to begin filming season 3 of CBS’s summer hit, we’re learning more information about when the show will return, and who will be joining us in Chester’s Mill.

Finally, the announcement Under the Dome fans have been waiting for: CBS has announced that the show will return on June 25, with a two-hour premiere starting at 9 p.m. The show will return to its normal time, 10 p.m., on July 2.

These dates mark a change for the show, as it will be moving from Mondays to Thursdays. Looks like CBS is looking to create some Must-See-TV of it’s own, by moving Under the Dome to a coveted Thursday slot.

Another change for season 3 will be the addition of CSI star Marg Helgenberger. Helgenberger will join the show for an extensive arc starting with the season 3 premiere. The question is, where will we meet her: inside the dome, or out?

This is not Helgenberger’s first time playing out a role in one of Stephen King’s stories. She previously appeared in the 1993 mini-series based on his story The Tommyknockers.

Helgenberger shared her excitement on Twitter:

Several cast members have tweeted about heading back to Wilmington, NC, to begin filming season 3. They seem as excited to make season 3 as we are to watch it, and their enthusiasm for what they’re reading in the script in certainly a good sign.

This exciting news has us counting down the days until June 25, to see what’s in store for our friends in Chester’s Mill.

Season 2’s finale killed off several characters (including new season 2 addition Rebecca, who will not be missed), saw Big Jim go off the deep end, and left the citizens of Chester’s Mill this close to finally getting out from under that godforsaken dome. But considering the show is still titled Under The Dome, that’s as close as they are likely to get.

What excitement does season 3’s two-hour premiere have in store for us? Will the gang get out from under the dome? Will Julia and Junior get left behind? Have we finally seen the last of Big Jim? Only a few months left before we find out.

Will you be tuning in for season 3 of ‘Under the Dome’?
