The Uncharted movie has hidden in the dark for some time now. Perhaps spurred on by the Nathan Fillion fan film, the movie is finally being talked about again.

In an interview focused on Stranger Things season 3, Uncharted movie director Shawn Levy was asked about the progress on some films that he has coming down the pipeline.

“I mean, as of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it’s a massive title. We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland,” said Levy.

However, the confirmation that Holland, known recently for his role in the Avengers and Spider-Man films as Peter Parker, is still attached was followed up by another stopping point.

“That is now subject to schedule and additional casting. But I would say as of right now, that seems to be the most near horizon. And it’s a movie I’m very excited about,” Levy continued.

It seems as though Holland is the only major star Levy is ready to announce as being attached to the Uncharted movie adaptation. The movie will take place during Nathan Drake’s childhood, and will be an original story within the Uncharted universe.

An excellent short fan film starring Firefly‘s Fillion was released last month, finally giving us a peek at our dream casting for Nathan Drake. The short film also starred Avatar‘s Stephen Lang as Sully, and Mircea Monroe as Elena.

Whichever direction the Uncharted movie ends up going in, I feel a bit at ease knowing that the director of the amazing Netflix series Stranger Things is going to be at the helm. The first two seasons of Stranger Things were massive pop culture hits, hopefully meaning that the Uncharted movie will hit the ground running.
