Naughty Dog’s Indiana Jones-style game franchise Uncharted is getting a movie adaptation, to be directed by Shawn Levy.

Levy is currently working as producer and director on Netflix’s Stranger Things, but might be better known for his comedy movies, which include The Internship, Date Night and Night at the Museum. He also directed the action flick Real Steel, which starred Hugh Jackman.

Uncharted is based on the Naughty Dog video series, which follows treasure hunter Nathan Drake’s epic adventures. It’s hard to imagine that this won’t look like an Indiana Jones-ripoff on the big screen, but we’ve got faith that Sony (which also owns the PlayStation console, for which the game was made) will make the story stand out.

And we’re glad that Naughty Dog is getting a movie made at all; there’s been a lot of hype surrounding the adaptation of The Last of Us, but last we heard, the movie was stuck in development hell — from which it likely won’t emerge.

With a script by Joe Carnahan, Uncharted will likely begin looking for an actor to play Drake shortly, as Deadline predicts a “fast track” for the film’s production.

Unfortunately, they probably won’t go with voice actor Nolan North, though we hope he at least gets a small role in the movie.

The final installment in the Uncharted video game series, A Thief’s End, came out this summer. You can see a trailer for the epic finale below:
