The Uncharted movie adaptation has cast Antonio Banderos and Tati Gabrielle in unknown roles alongside previously announced lead Tom Holland.

According to Variety, Antonio Banderas will likewise be joined by actresses Sophia Ali and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Tati Gabrielle. It’s currently unknown what characters all three actors will be playing.

The long-gestating adaptation of Uncharted has had a long and troubled road to production. The video game to film adaptation was first announced in 2008, with The Fighter director David O. Russell signed on to direct the film. However, since then, Uncharted has brought on and lost five more directors — Limitless director Neil Burger, Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon, Stranger Things director-producer Shawn Levy, 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg, and most recently, Bumblebee director Travis Knight.

In that time, seven different writers have likewise passed the script through their hands, including two of the directors — Russell and Berger — and two TV writers, David Guggenheim and Rafe Judkins.

However, it looks like the Uncharted adaptation has finally stabilized its cast and its creative team, as Variety reports that Venom and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer has officially signed on to helm the film, which will be based on a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway who are best known for writing Iron Man and Punisher: War Zone.

Uncharted is a popular action-adventure game that centers on Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who travels the world trying to uncover a variety of historical mysteries. This particular movie will will be a prequel to the game series, taking its inspiration from the sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in which the young thief Nathan Drake first encounters his partner Victor Sullivan, which then essentially sets up the events of the entire game franchise.

Tom Holland will play Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg (once slated to play Nathan Drake in a previous iteration of the film) will play Victor Sullivan.

Uncharted is slated to be released on March 5, 2021.
