I love Jay Crownover. There, I said it. And her newest series gives me more Crownover cowboys and I am all for that. Check out Unbroken, our first foray into her new Loveless, Texas series.

Fans of Jay Crownover have heard of Loveless, Texas before. We know that three of our beloved Marked Men/Saints of Denver characters hailed from the small, southern town, but beyond hearing the upsetting details of their experiences, we’ve seen very little of the town itself. That is all about to change.

Unbroken gives us Crew Lawton and Della Deveaux’s story. We literally meet him as he is getting the bloody pulp beat out of him by a couple of loan shark goons. She meets him minutes after he throws yet another ride, likely tossing his career into the toilet, and from there on out, the two cannot ignore the niggling feeling that there’s something between them that neither has ever experienced before.

This novella is our introduction to a whole new family, as the Lawtons burst onto the scene with Crew and his brand of badass. Like any good Jay hero, he’s a little brave, a little reckless, and a whole lot more ready for the love of his life to save him from himself.

I think that’s what I love the most about Jay’s books. There’s always a badass, but each has their own brand. Each of the Marked Men has their own way of strutting their stuff, as do the men of the Point, the Saints of Denver, the Warners, and all the rest.

And her ladies do their own strutting, too. There are no pushovers in the world of Crownover, and that is more evident than ever with Unbroken‘s leads. Crew has a whole lot of macho in him, but he’s a little down due to his demons that have finally started to overtake his better nature. Della isn’t flying high either at the moment, thanks to a father who has withheld affection and credit for most of her life.

Neither of them is having a particularly great day, and that definitely helps to push them together. Della offers Crew a chance to dig himself out of a whole lotta trouble. Crew is the perfect face to bridge the gap between rugged men and professional men who could finally push Della’s successes high enough to force her father to appreciate her value to the company.

And through each of them, we learn they hold so much more value to their loved ones than either Crew or Della could imagine. Sigh.

I really hope we get a couple of check-ins with Crew and Della as the Loveless, Texas series unfolds. These two have an unbridled chemistry that will only get more wonderful the more we see them together. So, as we prepare to dive into Case’s story, I will also be hoping for glimpses at Crew and Della’s blossoming future happiness.

I am beyond excited to get to know all the Lawtons better, as well as all the other people who make up their world. It’s a damn good thing Justified comes out in just over a month!
