In an epic turn of events Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt pulled a move so unexpected I still can’t believe it: They sent a character to Litchfield.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premiered this past weekend on Netflix and I was quick to devour as much of it as I can while I worked. Then episode 5 came on and as it ended I found myself unable to focus on the work and glued to the screen as they sent one of the characters to Litchfield.

Light Kimmy Scmidt spoilers ahead, obviously.

In episode 5, titled Kimmy Steps on a Crack!, Kimmy steps on a crack for the first time in years, finally giving up on the superstition of bad luck. Welp, that didn’t work out for her.

The FBI then approach Kimmy asking for help handling a situation with her old bunker mate, Gretchen. Gretchen started a cult of her own comprising of kidnapped young boys, a decision that ultimately leads her to prison.

And then it happens: At the end of the episode Gretchen’s prison bus pulls up and she gets off at Litchfield with her fellow inmates, including Black Cindy from Orange is the New Black!

And no, it wasn’t a dream. Take a look for yourself!

Entertainment Weekly spoke to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt co-creator Robert Carlock about the crossover, and he clarified just how real this is.

“We thought it was funny to suggest we lived in that same world as Orange Is the New Black,” says Carlock. “And of course we’re always looking for Netflix synergies.

We emailed Jenji Kohan just asking if it was okay that we said she was going to that prison, and then I think we added the idea of, “Oh, it’d be nice to have one of their actors to make it really real.”

Alright, that’s amazing. I absolutely love that a “we should crossover with OITNB” joke actually went from a passing comment to reality.

Obviously this is something you’ll have to take with a grain of salt. Yes, they’re in the same universe, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to see Gretchen anywhere near season 5 of Orange Is the New Black, and it doesn’t mean every Netflix original is suddenly in the very same universe.

So what does this mean?

Well, now there’s a better chance that any and all of your favorite Netflix original series could be connected!

Apparently it’s just up to the showrunners, and if they can agree to co-exist then you’ll probably find a couple of your shows connecting in the next few seasons.

Naturally, I’ve already came up with a few ideas for these crossovers.

Which Netflix original series would you like to see intersect?

Don’t forget, it doesn’t have to be some major crossover event! What references would you like your favorite shows to make?
