The U.K. Avengers DVD/Blu-ray will not include director Joss Whedon’s commentary that is included in the U.S. edition due to time constraints.

According to Empire Magazine, the U.K. edition of The Avengers Blu-ray/DVD will not include director commentary that Joss Whedon recorded. Apparently Disney have told them that the commentary was recorded too late for the U.K. Avengers DVD/Blu-ray for it to be included and they decided not to delay the release.

Empire then followed up with a tweet confirming that there were no plans for a future Avengers DVD/Blu-ray to be released with the director’s commentary. We assume this also means any units sold in Europe will not include director Joss Whedon’s commentary.

This news comes just hours after The Avengers Phase One collector’s edition was pulled from Amazon.com due to a patent lawsuit. It looks like things aren’t going very smoothly for this release. So, would our U.K. fans rather have waited another week to get The Avengers on DVD/Blu-ray? We definitely think it would have been worth the wait to have the director’s commentary included.

If you must have the director’s commentary for The Avengers, most DVD/Blu-ray players allow you to set it to “region free” mode and it will allow you to play the U.S. version if you’re able to obtain a copy.
