Looking for a great read to start your summer? Missing your favorite show already? Check out these recs based on some of TV’s biggest shows.

The long march toward fall premieres is just beginning, so while your favorite shows are on a break, maybe give one of these romance recs a try. There is truly a romance title for just about any taste, and these below are just a brief cross section of the variety that is out there. I mean, if you’re dying for more adventures like the girls on The Bold Type have, why not try reading something that may just give you the same feels?

And if you’re already a regular romance reader, we know that it’s not always easy to get people to see past the stigma of reading romance and give your favorites a try, but maybe if you tell them that a book or series is similar to their favorite TV show, they’ll be more inclined to give romance a shot.

Anywho, here are a handful of series and titles that have a little or a lot in common with some of the favorite TV shows out there today. And this isn’t including those shows that are based on books. I mean, if you like Game of Thrones or Outlander, you can always tap into those worlds by cracking into a copy of one of the books. These matches were a little bit harder to suss out…

Do you watch ‘The Walking Dead’?

Read ‘Flesh’ and ‘Skin’ by Kylie Scott

When it comes to zombies, there’s not always a lot of time for romance, but Kylie Scott, author of the fabulous Dive Bar and Stage Dive series, found a way to weave the two worlds together pretty perfectly. These books will give you the same thrill you get every time a walker pops up out of nowhere on TWD. And in addition to all that zombified goodness, you also get a Kylie Scott romance.

Do you watch ‘The Bold Type’?

Read the Stiletto series by Lauren Layne

The Bold Type is all about a trio of girlfriends who work at a women’s magazine and help each other through life’s twists and turns. That is basically the exact same premise of Lauren Layne’s incredible series, just exchange ‘Scarlet’ for ‘Stilleto’ and ‘Pinstripe’ for ‘Oxford’ and you’ve got yourself a pretty damn close comparison. Lauren Layne does office banter better than anyone, and the bond between the leading ladies will have you wondering if these two series aren’t more closely related than they appear.

Do you watch ‘Supernatural’?

Read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward

I don’t read a lot of paranormal romance. It’s a genre that I’ve kept very YA for most of my reading so far, but I absolutely intend to remedy that. While this one might not be a line for line match, Black Dagger Brotherhood is about a family of brothers who look out for each other while protecting their kind from the evils of the world. Did we mention that they’re vampires? So you’ve got the brotherly bond and the supernatural element, so there’s definitely grounds for comparison at the very least.

Do you watch ‘Shameless’?

Read the Walsh series by Kate Canterbary

While I might not be a Shameless watcher, I know very well the antics of the Gallagher family. The Gallaghers have their own distinct brand of dysfunction, but the Walshes certainly know what it feels like to be a family full of personalities that don’t always mesh in the best way possible. And Shannon Walsh definitely has a lot in common with Fiona Gallagher as they both step up to raise their siblings when their parents aren’t around to do the job.

Do you watch ‘The Magicians’?

Read ‘Hex Hall’ by Rachel Hawkins

Hex Hall is a fun read that mixes a lot of what makes The Magicians so much fun. Rachel Hawkins does wit and laughs better than most in the business, and that is one thing that The Magicians is never short on. Add in the magical school dynamic and the general otherworldliness of the atmosphere and I’ll bet fans of this unique show will enjoy this magical series.

Do you watch ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’?

Read The Academy series by Tessa Bailey

When it comes to changing up the typical police drama/comedy on TV, look no further than Brooklyn Nine-Nine. And if you want a steamy, sexy, and laugh-out-loud funny police romance, Tessa Bailey is definitely your girl. I could have easily put her previous series, the Line of Duty series, on this list instead, but her newest police romcom series, The Academy, really brings a freshness to the setting that Brooklyn Nine-Nine gets, too.
