HBO has been slow to make True Detective season 2 casting announcements, so news has had to leak in other ways.

The latest bit of True Detective season 2 casting news comes from Taylor Kitsch, who reveals to AdWeek in a new interview that he is indeed a part of the sophomore season.

AdWeek asked him if he was involved following months of rumors that revealed the actor was in talks.

“Yeah, I’m really excited,” the Friday Nights Alum said. “I’ve just been prepping. It’s been almost a full year since I’ve been on camera, so I’m itching, man. I’m overdue. You’ve just got to grind it out. Even taking this year off was, I mean you want to work, but you also don’t want to just water it down and work for the sake of working. So, it was tough to sit a year out, keeping a finger crossed that I was going to get True.”

A source for AdWeek says that he’s currently in the late stages of making his deal.

Kitsch confirmed that they’ll be filming around Los Angeles and that season 2 is “contemporary,” while adding that the guys have an “old school vibe.”

HBO previously announced, following leaks, that True Detective season 2 will also star Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.

The show is expected to premiere in 2015. A female role is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

True Detective season 1 was a runaway hit thanks in part to its incredible leads (Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson) and its compelling, dark story. The series is an anthology, meaning that each season of the show will be a new story and setting.
