Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Jessica Chastain has been offered a lead role in True Detective season 2, according to Nerdist.

The report says that Chastain has yet to accept, but if she did, her part would be as one of the chief detectives in the HBO drama’s sophomore season.

Despite Nerdist’s intel, a report from E! Online published Wednesday morning says that these rumors are false, citing comments from HBO and Chastain’s representatives. Only time will tell if they’re true or not.

Chastain is best known for her roles in The Help as Celia Foote and Zero Dark Thirty as Maya, pictured above. She’s had a slew of other work in recent years including Crimson Peak (coming next year opposite Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam) and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (later this year).

Season 1 of True Detective starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. As the popularity of the show continued to climb, many viewers voiced interest in seeing at least one woman take on a lead detective role in the next season.

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto said earlier this year that season 2 of True Detective will feature “hard women,” “bad men” and the “secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system.” He also tweeted that there will be a lead female role, but then deleted the tweet because he “didn’t want to be beholden to a promise and then change my mind.”

It looks like he’s now set on giving a woman a lead, which will surely please all viewers. If this news comes true, we can’t wait to see who they place opposite the actress.

HBO hasn’t set an air date for True Detective, but many fans are hoping the anthology returns early in 2015.
