HBO released the synopses for the three new episodes of True Detective airing in February.

The synopses for True Detective’s February episodes hint at some answers, but new problems come to light.

True Detective episode 4 “Who Goes There” airing Sunday, February 9: “Hart (Woody Harrelson) and Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) follow a series of dangerous leads in an effort to locate prime suspect Reggie Ledoux.”

Episode 5 “The Secret Fate of All Life” airing Sunday, February 16: “Hart and Cohle share the spoils of a solved case; Papania (Tory Kittles) and Gilbough (Michael Potts) confront the detectives with troubling new intelligence.”

Episode 6 “Haunted Houses” airing Sunday, February 23: “Maggie (Michelle Monaghan) sheds light on Cohle’s activities in 2002, when his relationship with Hart fractured and he quit the force.”

It’s important to note that a new episode will not be airing on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2. That’s because those who usually watch True Detective will very likely prioritize the Super Bowl.

In related news, HBO announced this week that their new drama has had 6.3 million viewers tune in for the premiere episode after HBO Go, On Demand, and other platforms have been taken into account. That’s a big jump from the 2.3 million who tuned in on premiere night January 12.
