Michael Arndt is currently in talks with Lionsgate to re-write the Catching Fire script, whose draft was originally completed in March.

First, some catch up: Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) nabbed the Catching Fire screenwriter position in January. We learned in early March that author Suzanne Collins was reading the script after Beaufoy had completed it, working closely with Collins.

That brings us to today, as Heat Vision reports:

The sequel is barreling towards a late summer production start. While Lionsgate doesn’t yet have a deal with Arndt, if he signs on, he will have to work double-time to get the script ready due to a squeezed schedule caused by star Jennifer Lawrence’s commitment to Fox’s X-Men: First Class sequel. (That tight schedule was one reason why Ross declined to take on the project.)

The reason for why Arndt has been asked to re-write the script is unknown. If we were to guess? The addition of director Francis Lawrence also meant a change in writing direction.

Arndt wrote the well-received films Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine.
