Transformers: Dark of the Moon has overtaken current record holders Spider-Man 2 and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in the holiday box office.

Spider-Man 2 holds the 3-day record for Fourth of July weekend with $88.2 million, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse holds the 5-day record with $157.6 million.

Transformers 3-day earnings come to a total of $97 million and as of Sunday, which was the 5th day, Transformers has raked in approximately $162 million.  Though both these amounts beat the previous records, we have to take into account how much the price of admission has increased since 2004, as well as the cost of 3D.  A whopping 60 percent of business for Dark of the Moon comes from 3D ticket sales.

Michael Bay certainly knows how to sell tickets, I just wish they were to a better movie.
