Traitor’s Blade is a must read novel for those who love fantasy, swashbuckling heroes, intense fight scenes and humor all in one package.

Synopsis

Falcio is the first Cantor of the Greatcoats. Trained in the fighting arts and the laws of Tristia, the Greatcoats are travelling Magisters upholding King’s Law. They are heroes. Or at least they were, until they stood aside while the Dukes took the kingdom, and impaled their King’s head on a spike.

Now Tristia is on the verge of collapse and the barbarians are sniffing at the borders. The Dukes bring chaos to the land, while the Greatcoats are scattered far and wide, reviled as traitors, their legendary coats in tatters.

All they have left are the promises they made to King Paelis, to carry out one final mission. But if they have any hope of fulfilling the King’s dream, the divided Greatcoats must reunite, or they will also have to stand aside as they watch their world burn…

Book Review: ‘Traitor’s Blade’

The Traitor’s Blade is an action packed adventure set in the medieval times, with wit and humor as well as some well-choreographed fight scenes, Traitor’s Blade is a fantastic read.

Set in the medieval times the story follows Falcio, a Greatcoat or traveling magister meant to hold up the King’s law. The only problem with the being a Greatcoat is that they are disgraced and considered traitor’s to the kingdom. After the Dukes overthrow the King, Falcio has sworn to follow. Now he and his two friends are forced to guard merchants, which is far below their skill level.

The story is told in first person from Falcio and flows between the past and present. The jumps aren’t random, however, and are used skillfully to give the readers information as needed. Usually the flashbacks happen when Falcio is musing on the past, which allows the scenes to be integrated naturally without breaking the rhythm of the narrative. Falcio brings a great deal of humor to the narrative and often prefers to talk himself out of trouble rather than resort to violence. As the story unfolds you learn more about Falcio and his need for justice.

The plot moves quickly with many action scenes that it feels like it belongs on the big screen. There is never a dull moment and the twists will keep you guessing until the very end. This is a strong first novel and the series is sure to keep the adventure going.
