The first trailer for Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina, starring Keira Knightley, has been released along with a rather glitzy poster.

Based on the classic Leo Tolstoy novel and written by famed playwright Tom Stoppard, Anna Karenina tells the story of an aristocrat, Anna Karenina, who enters into a life-changing affair with the affluent Count Vronsky.

Here’s a look at the oddly glitzy poster:

The film re-teams Joe Wright with his Pride and Prejudice and Atonement star Keira Knightley, who plays the titular character. Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) plays Count Vronsky, as Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter), and Emily Watson (War Horse) filling out the cast.

It’ll be interesting to see if Wright and Knightley can strike gold again when it comes to period drama, after highly successful attempts with Pride and Prejudice and Atonement. While the poster is pretty off-putting, the finished product looks to not be nearly as Baz Luhrmann-esque. Thoughts?
