The trailer for the new movie, How To Talk To Girls At Parties, is a non-stop thrill ride through 1970s England…oh, and also there are some aliens hanging around.

Based on a short story by Neil Gaiman, How To Talk To Girls At Parties is a very different kind of coming-of-age rom-com. The film tells the story of Enn (Alex Sharp), a young, shy teen living in London in 1977. He and his friends sneak out to punk parties late at night and ultimately come across a house filled with beautiful people who seem to be from another planet.

As it turns out, that is because they literally are from another planet.

When Enn meets a young woman/alien named Zann (Elle Fanning), the two quickly fall for one another. Zann is fascinated by Enn and his punk lifestyle, and she escapes the home and life she knows to experience what Enn’s punk, teenage lifestyle is all about.

This movie looks like it will be a wonderful, fantastic romp through punk-era London, while also bringing that highly imaginative world that only Neil Gaiman can bring us. While Gaiman’s original story was a short one, it was absolutely captivating, earning it a Hugo nomination and a Locus Award win in the short story category. We’re so excited to see how this story and the characters are expanded in the film.

And happily, this movie is in great hands. How To Talk To Girls At Parties is being directed by John Cameron Mitchell, the genius who brought us the film Hedwig and the Angry Inch back in 2001. We have no doubt that such a visionary creator will bring Gaiman’s work to life beautifully.

How To Talk To Girls At Parties will hit theaters this summer, so be sure to have your punk looks ready!
