Toy Story 4 has gained a new script writer. Stephany Folsom will pen the next installment of Buzz and Woody’s adventures.

Rashida Jones, along with her writing partner Will McCormack, were originally set to write the movie, but left the project due to creative and philosophical differences. Jones’ statement came in the wake of a report that John Lasseter had made overtures toward her whilst working on the movie as co-director. Jones denied the report, and Lasseter has since stepped down from his duties at Pixar.

With Folsom taking over on the script at this late a stage, it is unlikely that Toy Story 4 will be back on track to meet is projected release of June 21, 2019. It would not be much of a shock should the film be pushed to a later date.

Folsom herself recently worked on the Thor: Ragnarok script, though missed out on a credit due to WGA guidelines. She also penned 1969: A Space Odyssey Or: How Kubrick Learned To Stop Worrying And Land On The Moon, an original script about an alternate-history where Kubrick worked with NASA to fake the moon landing.

As announced back at D23 Expo in 2015, Toy Story 4 will reportedly focus on a love story between Woody and Bo Peep. Whether that central theme is still planned, with Folsom reworking the script, remains to be seen.

The next release on Pixar’s slate is The Incredibles, which hits theaters on June 15, 2018. That date originally belonged to Toy Story 4, before the major shakeups in production came to light.
