Disney and Pixar have announced that Toy Story 4 helmer John Lasseter will be joined by Josh Cooley in the director’s seat.

Cooley is described by Disney as a “rising star” who began with Pixar on an internship working in Cars’ story department. He went on to become head of story on this summer’s Inside Out and directed a short film for the Inside Out Blu-ray (details about that are still unknown).

Said Cooley on his big new job, “To be co-director on Toy Story 4 with John, who brought the Toy Story characters to the screen 20 years ago, is a dream come true. When I first saw Toy Story I was amazed by the groundbreaking computer-generated animation. But it was the strong storytelling that kept me coming back. Toy Story 4 will continue that tradition and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it!”

Toy Story 4 has been described as a romantic comedy with more focus on the toys than the humans who own them. Last week we learned that the new movie tells a separate story from what we saw in the original trilogy. We speculated the new movie would only feature humans as background characters, just like new toy owner Bonnie has in recent Toy Story short films.

It’s normal for a Pixar film to have a co-director or two. Toy Story 2 was co-directed by Lasseter, Lee Unkrich, and Ash Brannon. Finding Nemo was co-directed by Andrew Stanton and Unkrich. Up was co-directed by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson.

The fourth installment of Toy Story hits theaters June 2017.
