Tom Cruise and the Top Gun: Maverick trailer are here for any of you who were missing that need…the need for speed!

It’s not San Diego Comic Con if there aren’t a few surprises along the way.

Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance today in Hall H to drop the long awaited and long gestating sequel to one of his most iconic roles and most legendary films (and given that it’s Tom Cruise, that’s saying something). He spoke about being excited to not only be back in the shoes of Pete Mitchell, but in bringing the story back to San Diego.

Top Gun: Maverick seemingly combines all the best parts of Top Gun which we were nostalgic for — planes flying at top speed, Tom Cruise in aviators — plus all the insane and death-defying stunts Tom Cruise has become well known for.

Check out the trailer below!

Top Gun: Maverick comes 34 years after the first Top Gun and features Tom Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, the same pilot who still has a need for speed but not a need to move up in ranks.

Pete is still a captain after all these years, one who we see training some new recruits in the form of Miles Teller, as Goose’s son, Glen Powell and Manny Jacinto. And as to the question of everyone’s mind (or perhaps just mine) of whether there’d be another beach volleyball scene, the trailer answers it with a definitive yes.

Top Gun: Maverick, which stars Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm — along with the previously mentioned buffet of eye candy — is out on June 26, 2020.
