The Vampire Diaries and The Originals both had their Paleyfest panels last night, and it was filled with fun moments and interesting details. Check out our top ten favorite moments!

‘The Originals’

Exclusive clip!

The panel started with a clip from the next episode between Elijah and Klaus. It was a great brotherly argument between Originals! Klaus’ plans are starting to get on Elijah’s nerves and he’s starting to get sick of putting himself second to Klaus; he wants peace between the factions and wants nothing to get in the way of that.

Then there was a montage of people being tortured, and Monique killing Genevieve. Davina showed off her powers, and there was writing on the wall made of blood saying “There will be no peace.” Looks like not everyone is down for that!

Origins of the Originals

Originally they wanted The Originals to take place Chicago, since they knew that Rebekah and Klaus partied with Stefan in Chicago in the ’20s, so it wasn’t until a brainstorming session they thought of New Orleans.

Danielle Campbell didn’t know she was going to die

When the script came out for the episode, Danielle Campbell, who plays Davina, didn’t have time to read the script. On that day people kept going up to her asking, “Did you read the script?!” So one time she played along and went “Oh my god, yeah I can’t believe it,” and the person retorted “Yeah, like what’s up with you dying?!” Cue her panicking.

Turns out that Julie Plec forgot to warn the actress about her temporary death! There’s an unspoken rule on set where if you kill off a series regular you meet them in person, and if you kill someone temporarily you warn them before the script goes out. Poor Danielle slipped through the cracks!

Rebekah is coming back

As far as Claire Holt is concerned, her leave is a temporary vacation in the sun. It wasn’t a choice from the writers, nor a personal choice from Claire, but rather it was a life choice for her to go home for a little while and see the people she’s been missing for a long time. But she thinks, hopes, and maybe knows, that she is going to come back and there are going to be more stories to tell with Rebekah.

Joseph talks about Klaroline

When asked about what he thought of the ship, Joseph opened up to the audience. In the beginning, Joseph was really liking them because Caroline brought new things to Klaus. But he never thought it was a good idea for them to just be together, because then where’s the drama? The thing about Klaus is “that he can’t find love, because he just messes it up for himself, and he would mess it up for her.”

‘The Vampire Diaries’

A tribute to Katherine Pierce

The panel started with a montage of all the Katherine moments on the show, divided by lover, vampire, human, etc. It culminated in Katherine being raised up into the sky.

And then the montage continued through to show all the important plots from last season, and gave us clips from the rest of the season where a guy named Marcos, an old traveler, explains he is the reason Stefan and Elena are always drawn to each other. It looks like the travelers are the big baddies of the rest of the season, and there’s plenty of footage of them chanting along and being creepy as hell.

Delena Rain Scene

Turns out the fans have wanted Delena to have a kissing scene in the rain, and Ian just found out about it at 1AM the previous day. This is where they explain they don’t think it’s a great idea – last time they were filming in the rain together, Ian’s facial muscles froze and Nina had icicles in her hair!

That’s what happens when you film a rain scene and it’s 30 degrees!

Nina’s Face: The Painting

As a gift to Paul for directing his first episode, Nina sent Paul a huge painting of her face. Like, an actual paining, not a photo, of just her face and her hair. It now hangs in Paul’s dressing room, where only a select few get to see it.

Katherine’s Ending is Up to You

When asked about Katherine’s departure from the show, the show runners skirt around the question and Julie Plec says it’s the first time they’ve “left it to the viewer’s imagination.” Although Plec does mention she was ripped from the church and into a proverbial Hell.

Caroline Dries, the other executive producer, mentions that they just wanted Katherine’s departure to feel different, which was the point of the scene.

‘Taking Caroline away from ‘The Vampire Diaries’ would be very damaging’

When asked about the possibilities of Klaroline, Julie Plec mentions that Caroline belongs in Mystic Falls, and Ian mentioned that “We have Caroline!” Everyone on the panel agreed that Mystic Falls needs their bubbly, happy Caroline.

So, in theory, it sounds like Klaroline will not be end game, but as long as the characters are happy that’s all that matters to us!
