The Vampire Diaries winter premiere airs tonight, and we’re picking up right where we left off: Kai kidnapped Elena, Enzo threatens Stefan, and someone faces the threat of cancer.

Previously on ‘The Vampire Diaries’

Kai was out in the real world and after his sister, Jo. He wants to merge with her (basically a witch thing for converging powers), which would mean that Jo would die if she’s not stronger than he is. Damon has returned to our world while Bonnie was left in the dust, even after Damon and Elena went to get her, and we discovered that Sheriff Forbes has cancer that vampire blood can’t cure (yet). Oh, and Matt is now forced to help Enzo take all the happiness out of Stefan’s life because Enzo is essentially just jealous.

Tonight, people deal with the consequences…

The synopsis reads, “More powerful than ever, Kai holds Elena captive while he learns to control his newly acquired magic. At the Salvatore mansion, Liv and Alaric try to prepare Jo for the impending merge ceremony with Kai, but they quickly realize Jo is weaker than they thought. After bringing Sheriff Forbes home from the hospital, Caroline travels with Stefan to North Carolina in search of a cure for her mother’s cancer. Meanwhile, Stefan, who has his own intentions for traveling to North Carolina, is caught off guard when Enzo shows up demanding to know what Stefan is hiding. Lastly, when Damon discovers Elena has been kidnapped by Kai, he is forced to rethink his strategy after an unexpected visitor throws a wrench into his plan.”
