Back up, Sherlock. It’s a running theme on Elementary that Sherlock does not understand when he is encroaching on people’s personal space. On tonight’s Elementary season 3, episode 7, “The Adventure of the Nutmeg Concoction,” Sherlock asserts himself, both professionally and personally, into Joan’s work and love life.

Last Week on ‘Elementary’

A stolen map is the key to a hefty real estate deal involving the construction of a casino in Virginia. Kitty’s expanding social life makes Sherlock uneasy and he keeps her busy with time consuming errands. Joan accuses Sherlock of pulling the same routine on Kitty that he did with her, but Sherlock offers up a different explanation. Contrary to Joan’s belief, Sherlock is looking out for his recovering protege by making sure she is not leaping into anything too quickly. Fortunately, Kitty understands Sherlock’s motives and appreciates the gesture.

This week on ‘Elementary’

Sherlock’s help on Joan’s case is not the only thing setting her at odds with her former partner. Since Joan took her eight months away from Sherlock, she grew her own business, found romance, and settled into being her own boss. When Sherlock tries to weasel his way back into asserting his opinion and instruction over one or more of those areas, Joan will have none of it!

Kitty’s insistence on passing information along to Sherlock is most likely the result of living with the bored detective. Can you imagine the type of experiments Sherlock would subject you to out of boredom?

A word to the wise, do not push Joan around.

A VERY special guest returns this week, Ms. Hudson! While she is enlisted to help keep and ear out, Joan has finally reached her breaking point with Sherlock. Since he has all the duties handed out on the “nutmeg” case, Sherlock moves onto recommending how Joan should proceed with the missing person’s case, on a completely “voluntary” basis of course. Joan flips the table and undercuts Sherlock’s slip into mentor mode rather than partner mode. You go, Joan.
