Peggy Carter returns in the two-hour premiere of Marvel’s Agent Carter, airing tonight on ABC!

You’ve seen her in Captain America. You’ve seen her on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But when Agent Carter premieres tonight, the inimitable Peggy Carter will finally take center stage.

The two-hour series premiere will find the agent in New York City, working – or trying to – for the Scientific Strategic Reserve. But it’s 1946, and the men who surround Peggy are all too eager to ignore her wits, her skill, and her ability to kick their asses.

ABC’s synopsis for the first episode of the Agent Carter premiere, titled “Now Is Not The End,” sets up another problem for Peggy.

“When old acquaintance Howard Stark finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy – the only person he can trust – to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name. He empowers his butler, Edwin Jarvis, to be at her beck and call when needed to help assist her as she investigates and tracks down those responsible for selling these weapons of mass destruction. If caught going on these secret missions for Stark, Peggy could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison – or worse.”

The synopsis for episode 2, titled “Bridge and Tunnel,” floats the idea that even Peggy’s colleagues at the S.S.R. may serve as her antagonists.

“Howard Stark’s deadliest weapon has fallen into enemy hands, and only Agent Carter can recover it,” ABC says. “But can she do so before her undercover mission is discovered by SSR Chief Dooley and Agent Thompson?”

A bouncy preview for the Agent Carter premiere offers a sense of atmosphere, hinting at both the glamour and danger in Peggy’s line of work.

Still photos from the pilot episode focus on a particular mission – and more than one mysterious figure. Below, stills from “Bridge and Tunnel” suggest office antics, and give us a look at butler Edwin Jarvis, S.S.R. chief Rodger Dooley, agents Jack Thompson and Daniel Sousa, and Peggy’s friend Angie Martinelli.
