The Tomorrow People premiered with its pilot episode tonight with a riveting series premiere.

The pilot opens with a voice-over from our main character Stephen Jameson (Robbie Amell) as we see him go through the motions of his day. Stephen is an outcast at school and takes care of his mother and brother Luca, as he straps himself in at night so he does not teleport. Just a normal guy like everyone else.

John Young (Luke Mitchell) is introduced as he breaks into a hospital to secure a certain file while Cara (Peyton List) acts as his eyes and ears from a separate location. John accesses the mental health files, grabs Stephen’s file and teleports away just in time. Neat. John is followed into the New York Subway by three Ultra agents who can also teleport and uses his Kung Fu and fast teleportation skills to escape them.

Stephen is awoken by a voice in his head as he teleported into his neighbors’ bedroom. It appears that this is a common thing for Stephen, much to his and his neighbors’ dismay. Stephen has seen sleep specialists and a therapist, Dr. Bloom, as his family tries to diagnose him.

Stephen confides in his best friend Astrid (Madeleine Mantock) as she keeps his ego and teenage angst in check. Cara’s voice interrupts Stephen as he attempts to pay attention in class and instead he comes off looking crazy in class. On top of that he is bullied for anti-psychotic pills and tricks his bully into taking laxatives.

Stephen follows Cara’s voice to the subway where John transports him to an abandoned station to meet Cara. Cara introduces him to the rest of the fourteen as The Tomorrow People. The Tomorrow People have the abilities of teleportation, telepathy, and telekinesis. Stephen is skeptical however John demonstrates by lifting him in the air. Cara reveals that she has felt Stephen’s emotions for the past year and reassures him of his normalness.

The powers come from a genetic mutation that breaks out during adolescence. Those who have the mutation are deemed homo superior according to Russell (Aaron Yoo). Ultra is explained to be the organization that hunts The Tomorrow People due to a species war and serves as a containment program.

Dr. Jedikiah Price (Mark Pellegrino) interrogates one of his Ultra operatives, who has powers like The Tomorrow People, who let John go and exposed the powers to the public. Jedikiah tempts the operative to kill him however The Tomorrow People are unable genetically to kill. Too bad for the operative, Dr. Price has no problem killing.

John reveals that Stephen’s father was one of the Tomorrow People and has fallen off the track after he left Stephen’s family when he was eight. Stephen receives a recorded message from his father, however he refuses to listen.

Stephen confides in Astrid who is skeptical and his effort to move a basketball with his mind does not work out well. Astrid thinks he has schizophrenia and that Stephen is pushing her away. The school bully comes back for Stephen as he uses his powers to incapacitate him, until he himself is knocked out. Stephen is possibly kicked out of school as his mother compares him to his father. Ultra happens to pick him up on his way home before Cara can rescue him. Not a great day for Stephen Jameson.

Tim (voiced by Dan Stevens) advises the Tomorrow People on Stephen’s location as John refuses to enter Jedikiah’s compound.

Jedikiah is revealed to be an evolutionary biologist and maintains that he acts for the protection of world peace. Cara and Russell barge into Ultra’s compound to rescue Stephen as Jedikiah threatens to inject Stephen to “fix him” while comparing him to his dead father. Before Jedikiah can follow through on his threat he has to take care of Cara, Russell, and John who suddenly appears.

Stephen manages to teleport out of the room (where no one can supposedly teleport out of), stops Jedikiah’s bullet in midair, and teleports the gang out of the compound.

Cara and John discuss Stephen’s uniqueness and share a special romantic moment. Do you like this couple?

Stephen sees the rest of his father’s video thanks to Tim and is told to trust his heart. John returns Stephen to his home and builds him up as the hero of the Tomorrow People. Meanwhile, his father’s brother Jedikiah just happens to stop by. According to Stephen’s mom his father and Jedikiah had a falling out before Luca was born. Way too much family drama. Why are their last names different then?

Jedikiah shows Stephen a video of his father killed in a car bomb. Do you believe him?

Stephen summons Cara for counseling about what he should do. Unlike the Tomorrow People he still considers himself a member of the human race. Cara promises to protect him while Stephen vows to find his father no matter the costs.

Stephen pours out his medication and apologizes to Astrid in the last few moments as he joins Ultra with his uncle Jed. What do you think of his decision?

The back stories of John, Cara, and Russell were not explored in this episode however we hope that they will be explored more in upcoming episodes of The Tomorrow People.
