Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is the next video game franchise to receive the film adaptation treatment, one of the many in the past few months.

Variety reports Tom Hardy will star in and screenwriter Eric Singer (The International) will pen the adaptation.

Though Ubisoft has had talks with Warner Bros. and Paramount, the film is not currently attached to a studio.

This is Ubisoft’s second major franchise to receive the film adaptation treatment recently, as Michael Fassbender is set to star in and co-produce the Assassin’s Creed movie.

The Splinter Cell franchise debuted and has seen six entries in the franchise since with the seventh, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, due out next year from Ubisoft Toronto.

“Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills,” said CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, Jean-Julien Baronnet.

“Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and … we’re confident he’ll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story … while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans,” he said.

Hardy recently played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and is currently filming Mad Max: Fury Road.
