Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace are in talks with Summit Entertainment to star in Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa’s adaptation of the Tom Rob Smith novel Child 44.

Hardy and Rapace are also set to film the drama Animal Rescue in March and will move directly onto Child 44 after production on that project completes. From the report on THR:

Daniel Espinosa is directing the thriller, which is set in the 1950s and follows a member of the Soviet police who, while investigating a series of child murders, finds himself the target of his own government’s suspicions.

Hardy will play the Soviet officer while Rapace will play his wife, who pretends to be doting partner but is concealing many thoughts and feelings..

Rob Smith’s Child 44 is a part of a trilogy, and it’s unclear whether Summit is eying a franchise with the film. Back in March of last year, we reported that Daniel Espinosa was set to direct the WWII POW actioner The Outsider for Warner Bros., although there has been no further news regarding the film since then.

Ridley Scott, who directed Rapace in Prometheus, will produce the film, which was penned by Oscar-nominee Richard Price (The Color of Money).
