Tom Hanks could be joining the cast of Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Pinocchio.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hanks is in early talks to join the cast of Disney’s next live-action endeavor.

Hanks could reportedly be assuming the role of Geppetto — the lovable woodworker who carves Pinocchio out of wood.

Disney has tapped Paul King to helm the upcoming adaptation. King is no stranger to bringing beloved children’s tales to life. The director’s most recent credits include helming both Paddington and Paddington 2.

King is also set to co-write the script for the live-action Pinocchio. He’ll be working with Chris Weitz, who is also set to serve as executive producer on the project alongside Andrew Miano.

Disney’s live-action Pinocchio is one of the many animated classics set to get the live action treatment on the sliver screen. Others coming down the pipeline include Dumbo, and Aladdin.

Interestingly, Disney’s live-action rendition of the wooden puppet who longs to be a real boy isn’t the only Pinocchio entity currently in the works.

Just last month we learned Academy Award winner Guillermo del Toro is teaming up with Netflix to bring a live-action Pinocchio to the online streaming giant.

While Disney is likely to stick to the elements of Pinocchio found in the 1940 animated classic, del Toro’s take on Italian author Carlo Collodi’s beloved tale sounds as though it’ll be much darker.

There’s currently no release date set for Disney’s live-action remake. For now, Disney fans can look forward to Tom Hanks reprising his role as Woody in Disney Pixar’s upcoming Toy Story 4.
