Harry Potter alum Tom Felton finally got around to using the Sorting Hat on Pottermore to figure out which Hogwarts house he’s in, but he didn’t get the group he was hoping for.

Felton, who played Slytherin bad boy Draco Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter movies, revealed that he was sorted into Gryffindor, the house of his top enemy, Harry Potter.

Update: Felton shared a photo of the moment he heard the bad news on Instagram.

Author J.K. Rowling was on Twitter this morning and noticed Felton’s tweet. Her response was perfect:

Even if Rowling isn’t joking, the fact remains that the Sorting Hat on Pottermore is rigged – we believe – so that an equal number of people are put into each Hogwarts house. This is a necessary reality because otherwise there would probably be an imbalance of students in each group, and then certain houses would have unfair point advantages.

Felton can rest easy knowing that Gryffindor may not really be where the Sorting Hat would put him. Although, Rowling’s comments certainly aren’t helping the case.

Edit: While I think the Sorting Hat is influenced by it needing to put an equal number of students in each house, I’m sure that the choices you give the hat are somewhat helpful in placing you in the correct group. I didn’t mean to imply the hat is completely inaccurate.

The only other Potter alum who’s used the Sorting Hat on Pottermore is Evanna Lynch. She ended up in Gryffindor too and was equally disappointed.

Were you disappointed by the Hogwarts house Pottermore put you in?
