The Hollywood mega-star is reportedly ready to star in MGM’s The Magnificent Seven, the latest in a list of the studio’s planned remakes.

Tom Cruise is said to be all but signed for the movie, a remake of the 1960s Western thriller of the same name (itself based on Japanese film Seven Samurai). The actor is thought to be a big fan of the original, and – according to Variety – is only holding back on signing a contract until the project is officially green-lit.

Cruise is already set to star in a new adaptation of Van Helsing, last seen on screens in 2004’s Hugh Jackman vehicle. Studio MGM is also currently working on remakes of RoboCop, Carrie, and Poltergeist.
