Several details about the upcoming twelfth season of American Idol have surfaced and confirm that Randy Jackson will not be at the judge’s table when the show returns. He’ll still have a presence, however.

Jackson will serve as a mentor once the contestants hit the later rounds of the show.

In addition, TMZ says that Nicki Minaj’s deal is 99% complete. Producers are particularly excited about her potential inclusion on the show, as Mariah Carey (who is the only confirmed judge so far) has allegedly expressed her dismay of working with her.

There will be four personalities at the judges table this upcoming season, but there’s no word yet on who will fill them. It’s been reported that at least one will be taken by a country music performer.

Jackson had been a judge on the show since its inception in 2002 when it was him, Simon Cowell, and Paula Abdul. The three were the sole judges for eight seasons.
