The coveted Person of the Year award from TIME Magazine has been awarded to Barack Obama, the President of the United States. It is his second time receiving the title.

In their lengthy article where they write about why he’s the Person of the Year, the story begins with a look at his re-election campaign which came to a close last month. TIME notes the fear inside the campaign over whether or not he had the re-election in the bag. The article then pivots into his accomplishments over the past few years and how he beat the odds.

As we shared yesterday, TIME had seven runner-ups:

– Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl shot for simply wanting to go to school.
– President Obama, TIME’s Person of the Year in 2008
– The Undocumented American
– Bill and Hillary Clinton
– Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi
– The God Particle
– Apple CEO Tim Cook
– Yahoo! CEO Marissa Meyer

Person of the Year selections over the past few years are as follows: The Protester (2011), Mark Zuckerberg (2010), Ben Bernanke (2009), Barack Obama (2008), Vladimir Putin (2007), You (2006), and The Good Samaritans represented by Bono, Bill Gates, and Melinda Gates (2005).

Was Barack Obama the right choice for Person of the Year when compared to the rest of the contenders in this list?
