Fans of Ransom Riggs’ Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will be happy to find out that the movie now has an official release date and director!

According to THR, the New York Times bestselling novel is slated to be released as a film on July 31, 2015. The script will be penned by X-Men: First Class writer Jane Goldman, and the film will be directed by the infamous Tim Burton.

Ransom Riggs has already completed the sequel to the novel, titled Hollow City, and set it for a January 2014 release date, but movie rights have not yet been purchased as far as we know.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children follows a teenage boy as he discovers an abandoned children’s home on a Welsh island and finds more than a few secrets hidden within its walls.

The novel is told with the help of actual historical photographs collected by Riggs, depicting the characters that the main character meets along the way.

Read the synopsis from the author’s website below.

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here—one of whom was his own grandfather—were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive

Quirk Books, the publisher of Miss Peregreine’s, created a book trailer for the novel back in 2011. Although this is not the theatrical trailer, it gives us fantastic insight into exactly how creepy this movie could be.

Although we’re positive that Tim Burton will add an even creepier tone to the film! Fans will either love or hate his adaptation, and we’re excited to see which direction he decides to take it.

Are you excited or scared of Tim Burton’s involvement?
