Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett may soon be joining the Marvel universe in Thor: Ragnarok.

Variety reports that the actress, who was nominated for a Golden Globe this morning for her role in Carol, looks to be joining the Marvel universe.

Their sources report that Blanchett will be playing one of the new female leads in the third Thor film, which looks to be an interesting movie leading up to the first part of The Avengers: Infinity War.

This would be Cate Blanchett’s first go at a comic book movie, with her being known most recently for incredible roles in such films as Blue Jasmine, The Hobbit trilogy, and this year’s Carol.

Marvel has been bringing in more and more talent as their film universe has expanded, with Robert Redford joining Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Glenn Close in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Both films were some of the better movies in Marvel’s slate, and we imagine having these types of actors around set just brings these films to another level. The studio wants their movies to have a wide audience, and having these stellar actors join the cast is a great way to bring in new viewers.

Cate Blanchett’s character is currently unknown, though we know that the Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo) and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki will be in Thor: Ragnarok. If Blanchett were to join, we imagine she could play an excellent villain.

Thor: Ragnarok will be released in theaters on November 3, 2017. We’ll be sure to keep a close eye on whether Blanchett joins the film’s already star-studded cast.
