The fourth installment in the Thor franchise, Thor: Love And Thunder will begin shooting in Australia August of 2020 after Shang-Chi wraps.

Marvel made big news at San Diego Comic-Con when it announced that Taika Waititi will be returning to direct the fourth Thor film, Thor: Love And Thunder. While the movie is slated to release in November of 2021, filming will begin on the movie in August of 2020 in Sydney, Australia.

As The Hollywood Reporter explains, shooting will happen at Disney’s newly-acquired Fox Studios Australia after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has wrapped filming. Pre-production on Love And Thunder will begin in March.

This movie will be a huge boon to the Australian and NSW economy. THR reports that Marvel will be investing $178 million into the NSW economy, create up to 2,500 jobs and use the services of around 1,650 local businesses.

For students attending the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA), and tertiary institutions there will also be exciting opportunities for trainee programs and internships on the movie. Basically, Australian film students have the possibility to snag the coolest internship ever.

Shooting two major blockbusters back-to-back in the same place is a pretty big deal for Australia’s film community. It will provide a lot of consistent jobs, and many great opportunities for local professionals and students just breaking into the industry.

The commute won’t be bad for Thor himself, Australian Chris Hemsworth. He expressed his excitement for Love And Thunder to THR, saying, “It’s an interesting feeling after Endgame because it was like where do you go from there, but it’s about making great films and to still be a part of the Marvel/Disney family and to be able to make another film is fantastic.”

It’s a great time to be a fan of Marvel, with Phase 4 promising a lot of exciting new stories and some much-needed diversity. And with Thor’s recent announcement of shooting in Sydney just after Shang-Chi wraps, it seems like a 2020 trip to Syndey is definitely in order if we want to stumble across any Marvel shoots!

Thor: Love And Thunder will be in theaters on November 5, 2021, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be in theaters on February 21, 2021.
