This week’s batch of new release’s on DVD & Blu-Ray, from the film side of things Like Crazy is the big draw. For you TV fans, Game of Thrones season one finally arrives in all its glory! Full details after the jump.

New on DVD & Blu-Ray:

Movies:

Like Crazy

I really fell in love with this film. While it didn’t quite make my end of year top ten, it was in the honorable mentions list, and I stand by Like Crazy even still as a truly great film. As I wrote in my review, “Like Crazy is exactly the type of movie I like to see being released, a romance that goes against convention and typical Hollywood tropes to tell a story ripe with meaning and honesty. Brimming with a new kind of energy, the film is at once a simple story of love and life, while at the same time presenting complex ideals and emotions.” I have yet to get my hands on a Blu-Ray copy of the film, but I’ll definitely be giving this another watch as soon as possible, and I suggest you do the same.

Summary: Brimming with emotional honesty and life, Like Crazy is an unconventional love story that demands attention.

Senna

One of the biggest snubs form this year’s Oscar nominations was that Senna was left off the Best Documentary Feature category. One of the most enthralling and exciting documentaries in recent years, Senna tells the story of Ayrton Senna, the world class Formula 1 racer. At once adrenaline-filled and tender, this is a documentary you will not want to miss.

Summary: Senna is an oddity of documentary filmmaking, as it manages to be wholly inthralling and exciting in its depiction of events that have already taken place. For any fan of documentaries or filmmaking in general, take a look at this one.

Immortals

I wasn’t a big fan of Tarsem’s latest outing, Immortals, as nothing but impressive action and camerawork could propel this film past mediocrity. As I wrote in my review, “Immortals serves as a perfect example of the importance of character, story, and substance in a film. Tarsem has created a rich world where the visuals command both respect and admiration, but the characters and the plot contribute nothing to a film that feels decidedly one-sided and lacking of important substantive qualities, as the visuals should fulfill the film, not make it.” So while I can’t suggest everyone go out and purchase this one, for fans of action and visuals, a rental may be in order.

Summary: Visually stunning, but utterly lacking in character and plot, Immortals is only for the most ardent of action fans or those looking for some popcorn fun.
