This week’s batch of new release’s on DVD & Blu-Ray, Hugo is the big draw, plus a few more get releases! Full details after the jump.

New on DVD & Blu-Ray:

Hugo

You have got to hand it to Paramount for timing the Hugo release onto Blu-Ray and DVD around the Oscars, particularly after it picked up five awards. Aside from this fact, Hugo is just simply a marvelous piece of cinema. I do question how it will play when not on the big screen, but I suppose that is an issue with the majority of films these days. Here’s what I wrote back in November, “Taking a very fantastical approach to storytelling, Scorsese creates a visually stunning world in which to capture all the wonder and splendor of films and their history.”

Summary: Though it may not be that accessible to casual film fans, Hugo is a masterful and visually stunning homage to cinema.
